Privacy Policy for Calorie Counter & Food Log
Effective Date: September 20, 2026
Last Updated: September 20, 2026
1. Introduction
Calorie Counter & Food Log ("we," "our," or "the App") is developed and operated by Prokhvatilov Daniil, located in Ukraine.
We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how our mobile application collects, uses, and
protects your information, including data collected by third-party services integrated into the App.
2. Information Stored on Your Device
2.1 Food and Nutrition Data
The following data is stored on your device using a local database:
- Food Library: Products you create, including names, nutrition values per 100 g/ml, and optional barcodes
- Food Diary: Logged entries with quantities, dates, and their calorie, macronutrient, and micronutrient values
- Goals and Settings: Calorie, macro, and nutrient goals, enabled nutrients, unit system, language, notification and sync preferences
- Usage Data: Counters and flags used by the App itself, such as the barcode scan counter, onboarding status, and Premium status — all stored locally
Important: We do not operate any servers. Your food and nutrition data is never transmitted to us, and we
have no access to it. It is stored on your device and, if you enable iCloud sync, in your own private iCloud storage
(see Section 3).
2.2 Onboarding and Goal Calculator Inputs
During onboarding and in the goal calculator, the App may ask for your sex, age, height, weight, activity level, and target
weight. These answers are used only momentarily on your device to calculate your calorie and macro goals.
They are not saved and not transmitted anywhere. Only the resulting goals and your unit system preference
are stored.
2.3 What We Do NOT Collect
- Personal identification information (name, email, phone number)
- Location data
- Contact lists
- Photos or media — the camera is used only for live barcode detection, and no photos or video are ever captured or stored
- Health data from HealthKit or any health APIs
- Account credentials — the App has no accounts or sign-in
3. iCloud Sync
The App can sync your data (food library, diary, goals, and settings) across your devices using iCloud. This sync is enabled
by default and can be turned off at any time in the App settings.
- Synced data is stored in a private iCloud database associated with your own Apple ID, operated by Apple
- Only you and your own devices can access this data; the developer has no access to it
- iCloud storage and transmission are handled by Apple and governed by Apple's Privacy Policy
- If iCloud is unavailable or you are not signed in, the App works with local-only storage
- Deleting data in the App also removes it from iCloud sync
4. Barcode Scanning and Open Food Facts
When you scan a product barcode:
- Barcode recognition happens entirely on your device using the camera. No images or video ever leave your device
- If the product is not in your local food library, the App sends the barcode number over the internet to Open Food Facts, an independent, community-driven food database, to retrieve product and nutrition data
- The request contains no name, email, advertising identifier, or any other personal identifier — only the barcode and standard technical information identifying the App. As with any internet request, your IP address is technically visible to the receiving service
- Retrieved data only prefills a product form and is stored only if you choose to save it
Scanning requires an internet connection for the lookup step. Open Food Facts' data practices are governed by the privacy
policy of Open Food Facts.
5. Information Collected by Third-Party Services
The App integrates third-party services that may collect certain data as described below:
5.1 Google AdMob (Advertising)
The free version of the App displays advertisements provided by Google AdMob, including banner ads and rewarded ads.
AdMob may collect the following data to serve and personalize advertisements:
- Device Identifier (IDFA/Advertising ID): Used to deliver relevant ads and measure ad performance
- Advertising Data: Information about advertisements you have viewed or interacted with
- Device Information: Device model, operating system version, screen size, and network type
- IP Address: Used for approximate geographic targeting of advertisements
AdMob's data collection is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
Premium users do not see advertisements, and AdMob does not collect data from Premium users.
5.2 RevenueCat (Subscription Management)
We use RevenueCat to manage Premium subscriptions and in-app purchases. RevenueCat may collect:
- Anonymous User ID: A randomly generated identifier (not linked to your personal identity)
- Purchase History: Subscription status, transaction dates, and product identifiers
- Device Information: Device model and operating system version
RevenueCat does not collect your name, email, or any personal identification information.
RevenueCat's data practices are described in their Privacy Policy.
6. App Tracking Transparency (iOS)
On iOS devices, the App requests your permission to track your activity across other companies' apps and websites
through Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework. This prompt appears before any advertisements are shown.
- If you choose "Allow": AdMob may use your device's advertising identifier to deliver personalized ads. This may result in more relevant advertisements
- If you choose "Ask App Not to Track": AdMob will not use your advertising identifier for cross-app tracking. You will still see advertisements in the free version, but they may be less relevant to your interests
You can change your tracking preference at any time in your device settings under Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.

8. Camera Access
The App requests access to your device camera solely for barcode scanning:
- Purpose: To recognize product barcodes in real time, directly on your device
- When: Access is requested only when you open the barcode scanner
- No Capture: The App does not take photos, record video, or capture camera frames. Nothing from the camera is stored or transmitted
- User Control: If you deny camera access, the scanner is unavailable, but the App remains fully functional — you can add foods manually. Camera permission can be revoked at any time in your device settings
9. Data Storage and Security
Your food and nutrition data is stored locally on your device using a local database. If iCloud sync is enabled, synced data
is encrypted and stored by Apple in your private iCloud database according to Apple's security practices. Since we do not
operate servers and do not collect your food data, your information remains under your control at all times.
Data collected by third-party services (AdMob, RevenueCat) is stored and secured according to their respective
security practices and privacy policies.
10. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data to any third party.
Data may be shared in the following limited circumstances:
- Third-party advertising: AdMob receives device identifiers and advertising data for ad delivery (free tier only)
- Subscription management: RevenueCat receives anonymous purchase data to manage your Premium access
- Barcode lookup: Open Food Facts receives the barcode numbers you scan in order to return product data
- iCloud sync: Apple stores your synced data in your own private iCloud database (if sync is enabled)
- Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or valid legal process
11. Your Rights and Choices
- Delete your data: Use "Delete all data" in the App settings to erase your food library, diary, and history — deletions also propagate to iCloud sync. Uninstalling the App deletes all local data
- Control iCloud sync: Turn sync off at any time in the App settings
- Opt out of personalized ads: Use the ATT prompt or device advertising settings to limit ad tracking
- Manage notifications: Enable or disable reminders in the App settings or device system settings
- Manage subscriptions: View, modify, or cancel your subscription through your device's account settings
- Revoke permissions: Camera permission can be revoked at any time in device settings
12. Notifications
The App uses local notifications to remind you to log meals and to send occasional reminders to return to the App.
All notifications are generated locally on your device based on your logged data and goals; no data leaves your device
for this purpose. Notification delivery depends on device permissions, battery status, and operating system restrictions.
You can manage notification preferences within the App or through your device's system settings.
13. Children's Privacy
The App does not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 (or the applicable age in your jurisdiction).
The App does not require any personal information to function. If you believe a child has provided personal data
through a third-party service integrated in the App, please contact us.
14. International Users
The App is available globally. If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or other
regions with data protection laws, please note:
- Your food and nutrition data is stored locally on your device and, optionally, in your own private iCloud storage — it is never transmitted to the developer
- Third-party services (AdMob, RevenueCat, Open Food Facts, Apple) may transfer data internationally in accordance with their privacy policies
- You have the right to access, correct, or delete your data at any time using the tools described in Section 11
- The legal basis for data processing by third-party advertising services is your consent (via the ATT prompt or equivalent consent mechanisms)
15. Data Retention
- Local data: Retained on your device until you delete it within the App or uninstall the App
- iCloud data: Retained in your private iCloud database until you delete it (via "Delete all data" in the App or through your iCloud storage management)
- AdMob data: Retained according to Google's data retention policies
- RevenueCat data: Retained as long as needed to manage your purchases, plus any period required by applicable law
16. Health and Nutrition Disclaimer
Calorie Counter & Food Log is not a medical device and does not provide medical, nutritional, or dietary advice, diagnosis,
or treatment. Nutrition data may be inaccurate or incomplete, and calculated goals are generic estimates. Always consult a
qualified healthcare professional before making significant dietary decisions. The developer is not responsible for any
health outcomes resulting from the use of the App.
17. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, third-party services, or
applicable laws. Updates will be reflected by changing the "Last Updated" date above. We encourage you to review
this Privacy Policy periodically. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
